Suicide First Aid: The accidental helper
This is a half-day [4 hour] interactive workshop which provides practical training to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. Attendees will be better prepared to:
- reflect on how our attitudes and beliefs about suicide affect the Suicide First Aid role;
- discuss suicide with a person at risk in a direct manner;
- build a collaborative approach to the Suicide First Aid role;
- review immediate suicide risk and develop informal safe-plans;
- identify resources available to a person at risk of suicide.
Start the day with a Yoga session to clear the mind, focus the breath and stretch the body. What better way to get present and in touch for the coming day! Mark has been teaching yoga for the Men at these gatherings for many years and uses his experience to guide you in your practice. If you have never done yoga but always wondered about it, then here's your chance to give it a go in this beautiful and safe environment. All levels are catered for, and don't forget, there is no such thing as a bad yoga student. You start where you are with what you've got. It's all about presence and breathing. Mark Purcell has been attending manhood and Manshine for over fifteen years, and running the men's yoga classes for most of that time. He is a Physio in his other life and has loved yoga as an adjunct to that, for about 35 years. Mark has two yoga teachers training's and a Pilates course to bring to his and your practice. Above all Mark seeks to have you explore your mind, body, spirit, and most importantly, your heart, through Yoga
Saturday will feature Osho Dynamic meditation. This is a powerful process of 5 stages over 1 hour using breath, sound, movement and stillness to release stored angst. It is an ideal process to begin the weekend by clearing the space for the new Gathering experience. Sunday will feature Sufi Centering using gentle, repetitive movement with breath and sound followed by circling/whirling then stillness to integrate.
Find your Life Passion by losing your fear of Death!
This is an experiential workshop without dogma or doctrine. You will have an experience that will allow you to transform your fear of your life ending into a celebration of new vision, passion and new opportunity to explore your life purpose. We will use movement, silence, partner work and creativity for you to create your take away document of the reborn, grander, more purposeful vision of you.
Clearing the Decks
Clearing The Decks is a daily reset procedure. It combines physical exercise, emotional release, active meditation, and some grounding procedures, it is an excellent way to deal with the “stuff” of life in all its forms. The objective of the process is to safely bring up and face whatever our “issues” are and then transform this energy into something constructive and useful. The process occurs during an actual walk. You will need to bring a water bottle, some reasonable walking shoes and I recommend that you wear shorts rather than long pants.
40FIED Strength & Movement
Brad & Tamas
Brad and Tamas run an online coaching/training program called 40FIED. The program was designed to help men over (or under) 40 restore or improve movement, flexibility, vitality, etc. The workshop covers simple, fun, ground based bodyweight strength and mobility training methods. The workshop is for you if you feel stiff around shoulders or lower back, if you have aches and pain or just want to improve your fitness.
What if you could feel more connected to someone you’ve just met, than with people you’ve known for years? What if, instead of feeling at a loss for words, your mind was overflowing with things to say? What if you could do all this, while having fun? Authentic Relating games are a series of short activities, performed with a partner or as a group, that foster intimacy and insight. Whether you’re a newcomer or an experienced man, you’re bound to learn something new.
Work in Progress
Chris & Terence
From the perspective that we are all a “work in progress”, Chris and Terence will lead a collaborative investigation of where we are in our lives, how we are coping with that, and where we would like to go from here. In the company of a group of men who want to take their self-discovery to a level where it starts to directly and positively improve their life experience, we will together form a place of safety, share our personal situation, hopes and dreams, and set simple intentions that improve our daily experience.
Feel it in your Body, Feel it in your Soul
How we breathe affects our mental state. Feldenkrais' methods help body and mind work together. Stomach breathing is a road to mental calm. Gestalt psychotherapy further defines this connection between mind and body. Just being without pretence, connecting with the inner spirit of others, and grasping the nettle of our lives is completely freeing.
Flow: Emotional Intelligence
You may have noticed each person has their own optimum level of engagement. Some men prefer high levels, while others prefer to be in solitude. Where do you sit on the continuum? An important aspect to a man’s flow is his emotional self and how well he manages, communicates and interacts his emotions; coined emotional intelligence/literacy. When this is well, sitting in a man’s optimum level, there is flow – or an ease to his life. When it’s not, there is stagnation, effort and negative feelings. This workshop explores these elements and what it means for each man.
Am I handsome?
"Am I beautiful? What is being handsome?” This workshop is about our self-perception … what I like about myself and fears of dissatisfaction about my self image. Working in pairs and groups, it’s about 'really looking into the mirror'. We'll discover what others actually see and respond to in us and what barriers there are to expressing our beauty.
Digging in the dirt
We hold ourselves back in a variety of ways which are usually hidden from us. This workshop is about bringing our hopes, fears and beliefs into our awareness so that we can harness then or discard them as we see fit. The workshop is wholly experiential and has no lectures or whiteboards. It offers a staged process of self-enquiry to peel back layers and expose us to ourselves. At the end of the workshop most of us will have had a few light-bulb moments and leave with a different energy than when we arrived.
2-Minute Noodles and the rubber-band affect
This workshop is targeted at “new” men (and potentially more experienced men as a reminder to not forget the basics). My insight is that often when men attend their first Gathering, or some other program, they believe when it’s finished that that’s enough, they’ve found “it”, the missing piece, their life purpose or passion, and that they’ve gained sufficient insight. As a result, they often don’t attend again.
Journey to the Centre of the Heart
Passion is a function of the heart intelligence. But the heart can be fickle and its wants transient. However under this fickleness lie the deeper yearnings – those yearnings that make life itself come alive! It is the juice that ignites living a fulfilling and purposeful life. Without passion and purpose our lives are meaningless, aimless, and prone to anxiety and depression. In this ‘journey to the centre of the heart’ we will use music, meditation and smatterings of neuroscience to find...‘that which we seek’. And then we will ignite it
Exploring “presence” as a field of power
Not simply personal power but Universal Power. Operating in this way there is vibrance, connection and support. In this workshop we develop our connection to nature, cultivate inner stillness, honour emotion and finally unearth our deepest discoveries and intuitions by creating a visual biography of our journey. Those who resonate with this workshop will have a capacity and receptivity to truth which when unearthed will bring clarity and a deeper appreciation for all of life.
In the physical world effort expended in one direction results in a counter-force expended in the opposite direction. This can be true for our “inner work” journey as well! A desire to move in one direction may be met with an unconscious internal counter-effort to block our path and hinder our flow. Shadow Work is about becoming conscious of our entire experience of being in the world. When we can see the full landscape we can choose to act differently. This profoundly simple process has the ability to unveil things that are hiding in plain sight. Depth and food for thought are assured.

States of consciousness come and go 1,000 times a day. Some states can last for just moments, like surprise or confusion. Other might endure, like contentment or anxiety, belonging or alienation. Other states might taunt us, like chronic fear or lust, aggression or passivity. States are conditions, trained into us during childhood, supported or condemned by our everyday contexts. Learning to recognise our own common states, and what conditions provoke them, can serve to help us make better choices. With clear seeing, we are free to orient towards states that we enjoy.
